New Year’s Resolutions

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Lots of people do. The top few usually involve losing weight, exercising, saving money, eating healthier, etc. Unfortunately, these items appear on lists, year after year, because we don’t follow through. The problem with these goals is that they are either too ambitious or too vague. Just what constitutes healthier eating, for example?

How about trying something specific and not too difficult to jump-start the new year? Here are a few of my favorite ideas:

  1. Buy a plant and put it on your desk, or wherever you spend a lot of time. Research shows that being around plants lowers stress.
  2. Schedule your annual check-up or next dental exam. It’s just one appointment, and one less thing nagging at you that you “should” do it.
  3. Take a walk. If it makes it more fun, download an eBook to listen to while you walk. Here’s a link to the audiobook version of my first mystery, Silent Winter Solstice. Amazon.com: Silent Winter Solstice: A Beth and Evie Mystery, Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition): Bonnie Oldre, Mallory Fuccella, Bonnie Oldre: Audible Books & Originals
  4. Box up a few of your clothes that you never really liked or don’t fit, and drop them off at the thrift store.
  5. Now that you have room, buy a few new things in lovely, bright colors for spring.

My authorial resolutions are to publish another two books this year and learn more about advertising. I recently read, Amazon Ads for Authors, which is chock full of advice. Maybe, after several years on the learning curve, I can finally figure out how to run profitable ads.
